Some people dread growing older, but I’m excited that I get to grow older. Why so? Turning a year older means I keep getting wiser.
I look back at the past with fond memories, however, I’m fully aware that the same year that comes with beautiful memories also comes with some constraints – trying something for the first time or being dependent.
I’d always said that when I turned 30, I’d create one of those lists of 30 things I learned in my 30 years of existence.
So here’s my list
- Legacies are overrated but often useful in motivating people to do more good. I sincerely believe that there’s a possibility that when people die, their priorities change, and what’s happening on Earth doesn’t matter as much as it used to. But it isn’t easy to fathom that because we’re using the mindset of one realm to predict that of another. I don’t think much about how people will remember me when I’m gone. I just want to know that I did my best – if it inspires someone else, great!
- Take a shot, and you’ll be surprised by the opportunities you’ll easily get.
- The best marketing is really what you can’t see. Subtle.
- Learning will open your eyes to new realities. There’s a world [of possibilities] bigger than you know exists.
- You can’t really learn without doing. Reading is only one form of learning – listening, watching… those also count
- Family and friends will make up your fondest memories on your deathbed.
- Not thinking too much about what people think about you will free you up of a lot of pressure.
- The best financial advice: spend less than you earn, try to make more money, invest in the long term (you can’t game the market).
- Everyone has some form of guilty pleasure that they’d indulge in. It’s okay. For some people, it’s travel, food, perfume or clothes. The fact that mine is different from yours doesn’t make me any better/worse than you.
- Many of our desires are acquired from other people. Once you realise this, you’d be liberated from feeling you’re not influenced.
- If you’re not drowning, you’re a lifeguard.
- Managing your emotions is a big superpower.
- Ambitions are wonderful, but you need to know when it’s enough and what you can’t do to achieve them.
- Take the higher road. Say hello first, make the first move and move on.
- Take care of your body, soul and spirit. Neglect it at your peril.
- You can just do things.
“Life can be so much broader, once you discover one simple fact, and that is that everything around you that you call ‘life’ was made up by people who were no smarter than you. And you can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that other people can use.” – Steve Jobs - God loves you, and he has a plan for you
- I’d always believed it’s better to stop when you don’t more to say than to keep talking because you want to meet up to a number.
