I most likely won’t forget today in a hurry and hope to replicate this experience more often.
I had stayed up till about 4 am getting lost on YouTube, chatting and concluding a book One thing you can’t do in heaven by Mark Cahill, Pastor Iren did say it was the best book he had read on evangelism, he recommended it to church earlier this year. I must say as a Christian and haven spent my 8 semesters in the university being a member of the evangelism team, I’d say the same too about the book.
So I was heading to Ikeja and a lady stood up to sell in the bus, normal stuff bah but then she was selling Mustard Seed from Jerusalem as you can see in the picture that one was for 50 Naira, she claimed it cured numerous medical conditions, that I didn’t mind (all regular bants ) then she also added that it cured spiritual ailments and bad dreams. As I heard that statement it piqued my interest, I removed my ear piece ( I was jamming up and planned to do so throughout the journey) to listen more and observe, one person requested for it then another person did too, I was quite surprised and even asked someone who bought for their copy, just to look at it myself. It was just there. An issue with being raised in a ‘religious’ society is that we tend to suspend objectivity.
The guy beside me didn’t buy, of course, I didn’t too. 30 minutes later, the seller was now sitting down haven sold a couple more. I felt It was time to witness to the guy beside me – I had just read a book on that so why not practice, I looked at him and he didn’t look like someone that wanted to talk, his face was straight, he trying to contact someone via the phone so he was off and on various calls, the bus was hot.
I finally broke the ice, I asked him why he didn’t buy the mustard seed, he said he didn’t like, so I rephrase his response, is it that you didn’t like or don’t believe in it. He agreed that he didn’t believe in it, and asked but you’re a Christian right? and the lady claimed it was from Jerusalem. He said he doesn’t believe in stuff like that, that he’d only accept prayers and anointing oil from his pastor. He clearly wasn’t into stuff like that, I sorta generally gauged his level of spirituality, then I asked him where he thought he’d end up if he died. Surprisingly, He said he didn’t know that only God could decide. So I said but you’re a good Christian right? And he muttered some words, he wasn’t even sure, so I told him, what if I told you-you could be certain about where you’d end up when you die? He was open to listening now. We both agreed that no matter how good you are you can’t make heaven by your works and only by relying on the Jesus’ sacrifice would you be certain you’d make heaven.
He was getting to his bus stop now and I knew my time was up, I couldn’t get much feedback but he was smiling when we were done as he alighted from the bus, It seemed like he got it.
It wasn’t such a difficult task once I got started and God made him co-operative!
Let’s do this again God.
One of the biggest lies satan tells the lost is that they will never be good enough for God on Judgment Day
