September 2024: 70 years and counting

I started the month by watching ALLofUS, a four-part series that follows the lives of 10 high school students whose worlds are turned upside down by a single lie. It broke my heart to see a project with good potential squandered. The much fanfare makes me wonder if everyone else saw the cracks, or was it just me?

The rest of the month was pretty eventful with a mix of good and sad events.

Highlights of the Month

  • Going on evangelism. It’s been a while.
  • Taking a spontaneous trip to Canaan land for Bishop David Oyedepo’s (Papa) 70th birthday. It was a huge celebration that reminded me of how young I am.
  • I liked the outcome of this profile article I wrote.

Noteworthy Stuff

📚Unreasonable Hospitality: The Remarkable Power of Giving People More Than They Expect – Will Guidara

“That word “unreasonable” was meant to shut us down—to end the conversation, as it so often does. Instead, it started one, and became our call to arms. Because no one who ever changed the game did so by being reasonable. Serena Williams. Walt Disney. Steve Jobs. Martin Scorsese. Prince. Look across every discipline, in every arena—sports, entertainment, design, technology, finance—you need to be unreasonable to see a world that doesn’t yet exist.”

“Consultants are literally cheat codes. Need to make the world’s largest slice of cake? Start off by calling the person who made the previous world’s largest slice of cake lol. He’s already done countless tests and can save you weeks worth of work. I really want to drill this point home because I’m a massive believer in consultants. Because I’ve spent almost a decade of my life hyper obsessing over youtube, I can show a brand new creator how to go from 100 subscribers to 10,000 in a month. On their own it would take them years to do it. Consults are a gift from god, please take advantage of them.”

🗞️ writing in the age of AI: q&a with journalist daniel adeyemi

“I learned to write and wrote by myself for a very long time before ChatGPT and other Gen AI tools came along,” Daniel said. “So I have to occasionally remind myself, ‘Hey, you have a brain. You can do this without AI. You used to write before AI chatbots came out and became a thing.’”

📽️Simon Sinek & Trevor Noah on Friendship, Loneliness, Vulnerability, and More

“There’s an entire industry to be better leaders, there’s an entire industry to be better parents, and there’s an entire industry on how to eat, sleep, and exercise better. Yet there’s barely anything on friends.”

A thought-provoking conversation between giants on an unlikely subject.
