Product Review #2

A product is a series of design decisions with a specific outcome in mind — Jason Fried

I’d refer to myself as a product enthusiast, I often spend some time just looking at what products people have recently built, it’s delightful knowing what issues people have chosen to tackle, the popular and the not so popular products, physical and intangible products. It helps me consider what’s worth building and also learn about how different the world could soon be.

Siren Care

Throughout the world, it’s estimated that every 30 seconds one leg is amputated due to diabetes. Why so frequent? People with diabetes don’t detect symptoms of foot ulcers on time.

A diabetic foot ulcer is an open sore or wound that occurs in approximately 15 per cent of patients with diabetes and is commonly located on the bottom of the foot.

I’m glad the folks at Siren care are tackling this problem one pair of socks at a time.

Siren Smart Socks is a real-time injury detecting sock to help diabetics prevent amputations.

This next year

This Next Year is a site where you create a letter to yourself by answering a series of questions — particularly how you plan on growing within the next year. The answers provided are then sent back to you in a form of a letter in 365 days

Unfortunately, I’d have to wait till later in the year to get one

Zenly

Stalker much! A real-time GPS locator, Zenly helps you know where your family and friends are and their battery level — actually it’s more than but those are the major features. In mid-2017 it was acquired by snap for just over $213M, with a large user base and enticing features it’s definitely a hit, I haven’t used the app but it looks like something I’d love to use.

Grownish S2E03

While watching an episode of grownish recently I couldn’t help but take a screenshot of a scene where there was some reference to the use of a GPS location app.

Ps: Of course, there are privacy settings for people who don’t want to be tracked all the time by anyone

Skedaddle

A different approach to ridesharing- using buses, have you ever wanted to go for an event with other people who are also going for that event? My guess is everybody has. I’d definitely sign up for something like this if there was one in my city.

Skedaddle empowers people to ride to amazing destinations with inspiring people — in a tap

Sli.do

I first used this app at the Global Peter Drucker Forum last year, it was easy to use and helpful. If I had never used slido before I would have argued that there was no need to have an app that helps collect feedback during events, I could have argued that a simple google form would do it or some other data collection medium would work and maybe I wouldn’t be totally wrong. However, on using this, I couldn’t think of why not to use this at every event and how it was a better option than the other alternatives I was aware of.

Slido is an audience interaction tool for meetings, events and conferences. It offers interactive Q&A, live polls and insights about your audience.

How much is my side project worth?

I like it! Just in case you’re in need of some monetary motivation/clarity as to why you should continue or sell your side project, this site offers some help 😊

Remove.bg

You don’t need to be a photoshop maestro, No need to go the extra mile in changing the background of your images, it just changes the background of any picture. The little things really count.

Teachable

We already have Udemy, Coursera, Udacity, Edx and a ton of other sites where people can teach and learn from but teachable, a platform I stumbled on sometime last year via the founder’s post seems to be doing a lot of things right to produce these figures.

This is the 2nd review, you can read the first one here or follow the series here if you’re seeing this later, I tried to add one hardware product as opposed to having all software products. I hope to do this once a month till I don’t see a need to do this again, I don’t think I want to make this an in-depth analysis of whether these products would make it or even become unicorns(in the case where they are business ideas), I just want to relish in the motivation behind these ideas and how different our lives could become different because of them.

Thanks to Producthunt and the other places where I get ideas from.

Have you recently found or used any product you find interesting? Please suggest it 😊
