Ten TED Talks I’ve seen recently

In the last 4 weeks, I turned to TED videos as my major source of learning, I’m not sure of how I came about this, maybe it was because I had ACCA Exams coming up and I never felt I was prepared enough so it was difficult to read any other thing. I watched quite a lot and I’ve compiled the top ten I watched in the last one month, my basis for selection is simply the ones that got to me and altered my thought pattern or affirmed a previous belief.

  • How great leaders inspire action | Simon Sinek

This to talk to me is a classic, I had seen it about 2 years ago but even as watched it again, I still was able to identify areas where I needed to make adjustments.

  • The surprising habits of original thinkers | Adam Grant

Whoa! So Adam Grant’s book “Originals: How Non-Conformists Move the World” is on my reading list for 2017, In this talk what got to me most was his view on procrastination, It was so not cliché.

  • The price of shame | Monica Lewinsky

In this social media era, cyber bullying is on the rise, Monica Lewinsky made me realize the effects of our mindless comments and what we can do to curb this bad act.

Monica Lewinsky a former White House intern with whom President Bill Clinton admitted to having had what he called an “inappropriate relationship”.

  • Two reasons companies fail — and how to avoid them | Knut Haanaes

The title looked cliché and I didn’t want to watch it as I had seen many people giving different reasons for the failure of companies, I was certain I’d hear something familiar but because it was just 2 reasons, I decided to give it a try. It was worth it!

  • Rage for Change – Ndidi Nwuneli

I’d always heard about LEAP Africa and knew little about the founder Ndidi Nwuneli. I got to understand what drove her and the numerous steps she has taken.

Did you know: LEAP means Leadership, Effectiveness, Accountability, Professionalism.

  • Everything you think you know about addiction is wrong | Johann Hari

He’s right, what you probably think is wrong.

  • Don’t find a job, find a mission | Celeste Headlee

In an era where many are confused on the right career path, this talk questions the normal advice usually given.

  • How to get better at the things you care about | Eduardo Briceño

“Real Confidence is modeling ongoing learning” that’s one line that has stuck with me. Working hard but not improving? You should watch this.

  • The power of vulnerability | Brené Brown

We all have issues with being vulnerable, Brené Brown just made me realize why I should embrace vulnerability.

  • The Power of Introverts | Susan Cain

The world seems to be set up in a way that favors extroverts, Susan Cain highlights the popular misconceptions and how introverts aren’t disadvantaged.
